DETROIT, Mich. - The Madonna University women's soccer team was not able to hold onto an early second half lead as they dropped their second straight match on Tuesday afternoon at Titan Field in Detroit. The NCAA Division 1 opponent used a goal in the final minute of play to even the score before sealing the victory in overtime to improve to 3-4-2 on the season while the Crusaders fall to 5-2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
FIRST HALF
-
The Crusaders applied early pressure with shots from Alexis Bozinovski and Cristina Moraccini while showcasing strong defense as the first Titan shot did not come until the 22nd minute.
-
In the 19th minute following a Megan Verant shot on goal, Bozinovski found herself in the right place at the right time as she was able to find the back of the net off the rebound for a 1-0 Crusader lead.
-
The Titans did not wait long to respond, and just four minutes later they were able to tie the game due to a corner kick that found the foot of an open Titan inside the box.
-
SECOND HALF
-
Just 34 seconds into the second half, Bozinovski once again beat the keeper, this time off a beautiful cross from Henning inside the box that was placed just under the crossbar for a 2-1 MU lead.
-
The Blue and Gold continued to dictate play throughout the second half, although a yellow card on Gabby Ames led to a Titan Penalty kick with under a minute remaining in the game that evened the score at two and sent the teams to overtime.
