SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Madonna University women's soccer team collected their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory by way of a 3-0 victory over Lawrence Tech University on Friday night at the LTU Athletic Field. Three different Crusaders scored goals in the contest while strong play from both the defense and Julia Stewart in net led to the shutout. The Blue and Gold improve to 6-2-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in conference, while LTU falls to 3-4-1 on the year and 0-1-0 in WHAC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF

The Crusaders struck first in the 17th minute as Sierra NIssan scored her second goal of the season, beating the keeper to the lower left corner for a 1-0 MU lead.

While the Blue and Gold continued to pressure for the remainder of the half by doubling the Blue Devils shots, they were not able to find the net for a second time before the halftime buzzer.

SECOND HALF

The Crusaders carried momentum into the second half as they once again carried the play. Cristina Moraccini blasted a shot that beat the LTU keeper just inside the right post for a 2-0 Crusaders lead in the 78th minute.

Just minutes later in the 80th minute, Nicolette Vultaggio collected her seventh goal of the season to give MU a 3-0, which would serve as the last goal of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX

The Crusaders outshot the Blue Devils 21-8 in the contest, with 13 shots on goal compared to seven for LTU.

Julia Stewart made seven saves in her 90 minutes of play, collecting yet another shutout on the year.

Vultaggio notched five total shots in the game, while Alexis Bozinovski and Sierra Nissan combined for another eight shots.
