Madonna University Director of Athletics Noel Emenhiser announced on Thursday, January 25, 2024, that Pikeville University (Ky.) Football's Co-Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach Brett Guminsky, will be the new head coach of the Madonna University Football Program. Guminsky becomes the third head coach for the Crusaders in program history.

"We are excited to welcome Brett and his family to Madonna University and the athletic community," Emenhiser said. "Coach Guminsky's approach to leadership and relationships, which are at the core of the athletic experience, have really stood out through this entire process. Coach has demonstrated his creativity to maximize resources and create a culture that will sustain excellence in each area of our student-athlete's lives as well as in competition."

"My family and I are very excited to be joining the Madonna University community and the athletic program," Coach Guminsky stated. "I am thrilled to get started and work with our athletic department and campus community to provide a football program that our campus, players, and fans can all be proud of both on and off the field."

Guminsky spent the 2023 season at Pikeville University (Ky.) where he aided the Tigers to a record-breaking season as they went 7-3, which was the best record since 2005 for the Bears. This past year, Guminsky was responsible for the coordination of all skill positions and the pass game. The Bears were an offensive juggernaut all season breaking multiple school records and conference records.

Pikeville scored a total of 383 points which tied the school record for most points scored in a single season. They averaged 38.3 points per game which was the 12th best in the country for the NAIA and most in school history. They were also second in the country for passing yards per game (321.7), they were 12th in the country for total yards per game (434.5) and all season, only punted a total of three times.

The Bears offense went on to break two Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) records as well. In week five against Union College (Ky.), Guminsky's offense broke the single game passing yards record as they threw for 614 yards in a 52-10 victory. In week 10, against St. Andrews University (N.C.) they broke the AAC record for most touchdowns thrown in a single game. The Bears threw for 454 yards and seven touchdowns in a 68-0 victory.

As the wide receivers coach as well, Guminsky had two receivers make an ALL-AAC Second Team.

Before his one season at Pikeville, Guminsky spent one season at Iowa Wesleyan University, the birthplace of the Air Raid offense. In the 2022 season, Guminsky served as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach. That season, Guminsky helped the Tigers to the most wins in eight seasons.

The Tigers' offense was ranked 20th in the country for total passing yards that season (2,560). Guminsky's offense rushed for 961 yards, which is the most yards since the 2018 season. The Tigers averaged 21.7 points per game and that was the highest points per game average since the 2017 season for IWU. Under Guminsky, three Tigers made an all-conference team, two being second team and one being an honorable-mention. Despite the success on the field in the 2022 season, the University was forced to shut down and close its doors.

In the beginning of his coaching career, Guminsky had some NCAA Division I FCS and FBS experience. His first coaching job was with the University of Richmond (Va.) as the Offensive & Recruiting Assistant. He assisted Offensive Coordinator John Garrett in coaching the Quarterbacks as well. Guminsky coached Kyle Lauletta who had a great senior season for the Spiders. He was 10th in the country for passing yards (3,022), was ninth in the country in passing yards per game (274.7) and was selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL draft by the New York Giants. Guminsky's Division I experience also includes Lafayette College (Pa.), Old Dominion University (Va.), and Tennessee Tech University.

As a player, Guminsky started his playing career at Becker College (Mass.) for one season before transferring to North Greenville University (S.C.). Guminsky earned his bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in December of 2016.
