Madonna Holds Off Goshen for 3-1 Victory

GOSHEN, Ind. - Onishi Haraki converted a 25-yard free kick in the 88th minute to seal Madonna's 3-1 victory over Goshen (Indiana) on Aug. 26 at the Ingold Complex. Madonna scored twice in a 47-second span during the first half, then protected a one-goal lead while playing with 10 players for the final 35 minutes to improve to 1-0-1.

The match began after a 1-hour, 36-minute lightning delay, and Madonna broke through at 30:31. Pedro Zucchi finished a run up the left side after receiving a cross from Fabian Schlechte. Just 47 seconds later, Fabian Schlechte moved from provider to scorer, converting a cross from Basile Lozachmeur for a 2-0 advantage. The goal stood as the game-winner, while Fabian Schlechte finished the match with one goal, one assist and two shots.

Goshen answered at 36:18 when Kyle Phillip scored following a square ball from the right, cutting the margin to 2-1 before halftime. Madonna had to protect that lead under difficult circumstances after Tidiane Diop received a second yellow card and was sent off at 54:33.

Despite playing a player down, Madonna kept Goshen scoreless throughout the second half. Goalkeeper Afonso Henrique made two saves and earned the victory, while the defense limited Goshen to three shots on goal among its 10 total attempts. Madonna finished with a 13-10 advantage in shots, placed eight attempts on goal and generated eight corner kicks to Goshen's six.

Haraki removed any remaining doubt at 87:17, striking the long free kick for the final goal. All three of Haraki's shots were on target, and the late finish restored the two-goal margin after Madonna had spent more than half an hour defending with 10 players.

The Crusaders will be back in action on Saturday, August 29th as they head to Fort Wayne, Ind. as they travel to the University of Saint Francis (Ind.). Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM.
