Second-Half Spark Lifts Crusaders Past Foresters

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Madonna University women's soccer team secured a decisive 3–0 victory over Huntington University (Ind.) on Saturday evening at King Stadium. After a scoreless first half, the Crusaders erupted for three goals in the final 18 minutes of play to improve to 1-0-1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Following a strong defensive opening half, Madonna broke through in the 73rd minute when Marlena Ballnik scored the first goal of the match. Just seven minutes later, Alessia Di Nino extended the Crusaders' advantage to 2–0 with her first goal of the season. Rylie Cassette capped off the scoring in the 83rd minute, sealing the 3–0 victory.

The Crusaders' defense held firm throughout the match, led by sophomore goalkeeper Mackenzie Paul, who tallied four saves to earn the shutout. Madonna limited Huntington to just four shots on goal across 12 total attempts.

Offensively, Madonna posted nine shots, including seven on target. Ballnik, Di Nino, and Cassette each registered goals, while Canses Gibson, Lillian Hayter, Eva Parker, Jessica Gucciardi contributed additional offensive pressure.

Huntington (0–2–0) applied pressure early, recording eight first-half shots and earning four corner kicks. However, the Foresters could not break through Madonna's back line or Paul's goalkeeping.
