LIVONIA, Mich. – Madonna University has officially appointed
Dominic Scala as the new Director of Esports, effective June 18, 2025. Scala brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as Director of Esports at Concordia University Ann Arbor and as Co-founder and Co-director of Esports at Divine Child High School.
"Coach Scala brings a wealth of experience in esports, having built programs at both the high school and collegiate levels," said Madonna Director of Athletics Noel Emenhiser. "He's demonstrated not only the ability to produce competitive success, but also to develop leadership and support education. Coach Scala aligns strongly with Madonna University's mission to deliver an outstanding student experience while striving for competitive excellence. We couldn't be more thrilled to have him lead us into this new chapter of Madonna Athletics."
During his time at Concordia from September 2020 to May 2025, Scala grew the esports program, significantly boosting the roster size by 133%. He also co-organized an annual Extra Life fundraiser, which raised more than $7,000 for the Children's Miracle Network, highlighting his passion for both gaming and community engagement.
"I'm honored to serve as the first Director of Esports at Madonna University," said Coach Scala. "It's rare to be able to start something truly new anymore, so I'm incredibly excited for this opportunity to build a program that reflects the quality in competition for which Madonna University consistently strives. More importantly, the primary goal of this program is to bring together a complementary group of student-athletes who can support each other in all facets of their lives: Spiritually, academically, and athletically. We want to set the standard for what collegiate esports can do for the lives of these young men and women through their shared passion of games and everything that comes with them."
Scala's background includes extensive experience in program development, leadership, and organizational strategy. In addition to coaching, he has expertise in English and learning strategies, as well as experience managing budgets and media content, making him a well-rounded and valuable addition to the Crusaders' athletic staff.
