HOWELL, Mich. - The Madonna University softball team (27-6, 10-0) traveled to Howell, Michigan to take on the Cougars of Cleary University (12-18, 8-6). The Crusaders were able to sweep the Cougars bringing their winning streak to 10 straight with a 12-3 win in game one and a historic performance from
Jane Anderson in game two where she would throw a perfect game to lead the Crusaders to a 10-0 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
Camille Oyer started on the mound for the Crusaders, and once again had a solid outing. Oyer would go four innings giving up only three hits and one run. Oyer also had two strikeouts on 55 pitches. Courtney Ludescher would also make an appearance on the mound for the final two innings giving up only two hits and two runs on 33 pitches.
The game was a back-and-forth affair early on. Madonna struck first in the top of the first inning when a leadoff walk from Alissa Gauthier turned into a two run homerun from Ashley Rosiewicz for her third homer of the season giving the Crusaders an early 2-0 lead. The Cougars had an answer in the bottom of the first after an RBI double cut the lead to just one at 2-1.
The real turning point came in the second inning. Madonna erupted for five runs, highlighted by a two-run double from Brynn Anteau and another two-run double from Rosiewicz. The offensive outburst gave the Crusaders a commanding 7–1 lead.
Madonna continued to add to their lead with a single run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth innings, including a sacrifice fly by Gauthier and Anteau and a RBI single from Regan Finkbeiner. The Crusaders capped off their scoring with two more runs in the sixth inning, securing the 12–3 victory.
Defensively, Madonna was solid, committing no errors and limiting Cleary to just five total hits.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Rosiewicz would go 3-for-4 with four RBIs, a homerun, and a double.
- Mackenzie Ming would go 2-for-3 with a walk.
- Faith Peschke would go 3-for-4 with an RBI.
- Ella Thomas finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Game 2:
Madonna wasted no time asserting their dominance, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. The offensive onslaught began with an RBI double from Anteau, followed by a two-run double by Rylee Fitzpatrick. Jessica Dunkel and Peschke also picked up RBI singles to take an early 5-0 lead.
The Crusaders added four more runs in the second inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Rosiewicz and a two RBI single by Thomas, increasing their lead to 9–0. They sealed the game with a single run in the third inning from an RBI single from Finkbeiner resulting in a 10–0 victory.
Jane Anderson delivered a stellar performance in the circle for Madonna, pitching a perfect game. She allowed no hits, no walks, and struck out seven batters on 59 pitches improving her season record to 11–4.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Finkbeiner would go 2-for-2 with an RBI and a double.
- Gauthier would go 2-for-3 with a triple and a stolen base.
- Fitzpatrick would go 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
- Rosiewicz would finish 2-for-2 with an RBI and was hit by a pitch.

The Crusaders will be back in action Saturday, April 12th for their second day of a back-to back-to-back as they head back home to take on Indiana Tech in a 1 vs 2 WHAC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
