Box Score Petoskey, Mich. -- The Madonna University men's soccer team was back in action Friday afternoon. This time, it was a neutral site game against the NCAA Division II Wildcats of Northern Michigan University and would settle for a 1-1 tie. Madonna's record stands at 1-0-1 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Despite the draw, there were several chances for both the Crusaders and Cougars to find the back of the net. In the first half, Madonna outshot Northern Michigan 8-3. The Crusaders did end up striking first as in the 27th-minute, senior
Yan Brun found the back of the net off from a Corey Mathews assist to give Madonna a 1-0
In the second half, the Crusaders were still on the attack q as once again, they outshot the Wildcats, 8-6 while goalie Afonso Enrique made three saves for Madonna. However, in the 71st-minute the Wildcats would find the equalizer and get past Enrique to tie things up at 1-1. The final 19 minutes saw three more Crusader shots but were all unable to find the game winning goal as this one ended in a draw.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Yan Brun would score his first goal of the season and the 11th of his career
- Madonna outshot Northern Michigan 16-9
- Madonna won the corner kick battle 6-0
- Henrique now has 11 saves on the season and an 84.6% save percentage
