Crusaders go 11-1 on their Spring Break Trip to Arizona

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 LIVONIA, Mich. - (RV) Madonna Crusaders Softball team traveled to Tucson, Arizona for a Spring Break Invitational facing off with teams across the country. In their six days in Arizona the Crusaders played in 12 games where they would go a very impressive 11-1. The Crusaders were also set to play two more games Friday but they were canceled due to weather. 

Recap:

Alissa Gauthier has seen a strong start to her junior season leading the team with a current batting average of .479. While in Arizona, Gauthier would go 18-39 with 4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 homerun, and 12 RBI's. 

Jessica Dunkel has also been off to a great start and was red hot in Arizona as she would record a hit in every game she was in. Dunkel would go 20-39 which is an impressive .512 average while in Arizona. 

Mackenzie Ming also had a strong showing in Arizona with a current batting average of .400. Ming would finish in Arizona with 5 doubles and a homerun while going 16-33 from the plate which is a .484 average in Arizona. 

The Crusaders also have seen great play from three newcomers to the team this year who have started in almost every game in Regan Finkbeiner, Faith Peschke, and Ashley Rosiewicz. Finkbeiner went 14-41 which is a .341 average in Arizona while also picking up 10 RBI's. Peschke would go 11-30 which is a .366 batting average. Peschke also had a near perfect fielding percentage and had three stolen bases. Lastly, Rosiewicz would finish the trip going 10-39 with 1 double, 2 triples, and 9 RBI's. 

The Crusaders are also seeing a dominant pitching trio of Maeson Schlaud, Laci Harris, and Jane Anderson. The trio have a combined ERA of 0.97 and are 19-2 as a group. Schlaud sits with a 1.15 ERA and 79 strikeouts. In Arizona, Schlaud finished with 33 strikeouts in 5 games with a game high of 11. Anderson has a very impressive ERA of .70 with 48 strikeouts and has an opponent batting average of .179. Lastly, Harris currently has a .89 ERA and is 5-0 in her five starts. In her 31.1 innings pitched she has only given up nine walks which is the lowest on the team. 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • Bailey Martin went 10-26 and currently sits with the 4th highest average on the team at .345
  • Emily Biggott also has a high average with a .350 batting average while going 9-30 in Arizona

     
UP NEXT:

The Crusaders will be back in action on Friday, March 15th as they head back home to University Field to take on Roosevelt University. First Pitch is set for 2:00 PM with game two starting around 4:00 PM.
