Football closes out 2024 season against Saints

LIVONIA, Mich. - The Crusaders returned to Livonia Franklin High School for the last time this year as they set to face the Siena Heights University Saints. The Saints would defeat the Crusaders 45-3 in the final game of the 2024 season. Despite their record, the 2024 season marked a vast improvement for the Madonna football program as a whole. In the first year of his tenure as head coach, Brett Guminsky set numerous school records including most points in a season and breaking nearly every previously held offensive record. Several new players set records as well, including running back Nah'shon Williams who is officially the record holder for rushing yards (647) and rushing touchdowns (7) in a season. While there is still a ways to go, we'll have to wait until next season to see what records Coach Guminsky and his squad will shatter next.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders would take a moment before the game to honor their graduating senior class.

The Saints would score first after driving down the field on a 13 play drive that spanned nearly eight minutes of game time. After this, the Crusaders would put together a long drive of their own, beginning with six-straight touches for freshman running back Nah'shon Williams. However, their drive would stall out in Saints' territory with just a minute left to play in the first quarter.

This time, the Saints would not eat away at the clock, scoring off a deep pass in the opening minute of the second quarter to make it 14-0.

After another Saints' score, the Crusaders would put together their best drive of the afternoon just before halftime. Kicker William Stoyanovich would get them on the board with a 34-yard field goal to end the drive.

With less than thirty seconds to go in the first half, the Saints would air it out and get into the Crusader redzone. They would score once more before the intermission with a long field goal. Going into halftime, the Saints led 24-3.

After getting the ball first in the second half, the Saints would drive down the field and score to make it 31-3.

They would extend their lead to 45-3 midway through the fourth quarter. The Saints' defense held up as they kept the Crusaders out of the endzone. 45-3 would go on to be the final score.
