LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna women's soccer team battled but dropped a 1-0 decision to fourth-ranked Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders are now 5-4-1 overall and 2-1 in the WHAC, while the Saints are 8-0-1 overall and 3-0 in league play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Little offense was on display in the first half, as the teams combined for just five shots. Aquinas picked up a yellow card in the 33rd minute but that seemed to be the only highlight on both sides. Veronica Kozak made one save for Madonna in the first half, while Kayla Shuk matched her with one save of her own. 

In the second half, the Saints turned up the heat offensively. They outshot Madonna 10-1 and scored the lone goal of the contest in the 53rd minute thanks to Sandra Segovia. It was all Aquinas needed as they escaped with the 1-0 victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Kozak finished the day with five saves. 
• Vitoria Sia, Karina Arnold, and Rylie Hunt each recorded a shot for the Crusaders. 
• The all-time series between the two programs is now at 22-20-5 in favor of Madonna. 
• Shuk finished her day with two saves.
