PITTSBURGH – The Madonna University women's soccer team opened their season with a strong 3-0 victory over Point Park University (PA.) on Saturday afternoon from Highmark Stadium. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Both teams were scoreless through the first 20+ minutes of play, but Karina Arnold changed that in the 25th minute. She scored the first goal of the season for the Crusaders and put them ahead 1-0. It remained 1-0 through the remainder of the half. 

Early in the second half, Sara Castillo found the back of the net to make it 2-0 in the 49th minute. She was assisted by Holly McManus, who scored the final goal of the game for Madonna in the 51st minute off an assist by Kate Giblin. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• The Pioneers outshot the Crusaders 8-6.
• Molly Cote led Madonna with two shots.
• Mackenzie Fifer started the game in goal for the Crusaders and made one save in the first half. She was relieved by Veronica Kozak, who made two saves in the final 45 minutes of action. 
• Today's win moves Madonna to 6-0 all-time against Point Park.
