BRIGHTON, Mich. - On Thursday night from the Legacy Center in Brighton, the Madonna University men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Point Park University (PA.).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The teams were deadlocked at 0-0 until late in the first half, when Point Park's Nils Benning was able to send one over the head of Crusader goalie Afonso Henrique and make it 1-0. Benning scored his first goal of the season and was assisted by Jaume Genovard. 

In the second half, the Pioneers added an insurance goal thanks to Genovard, who fired home his second goal of the year to make it 2-0. Madonna answered almost immediately however, as 33 seconds later Matthew Rafferty fired a cross into the box and Daniel Watkins put one home to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Crusaders did their best to find the equalizer the remainder of the second half, but Point Park held strong over the final 42 minutes and escaped victorious.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Watkins came off the bench and led Madonna with five shots in 75 minutes of action. 
• Henrique made three saves for the Crusaders.
• For the Pioneers, Eduard Garcia made four saves in net.
