Crusaders Split the Series with the Cardinals

LIVONIA, Mich. - The  (RV) Madonna Crusaders Softball team faced off with Concordia in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders would split the series winning game 1, 2-1 and would fall in game two with a final of 6-1 in favor of the Cardinals.

Game 1:
Game one would feature the Crusaders ace Mason Schlaud, with her first game back on the mound since her 200 pitch outing against Indiana Tech six days ago. Schlaud would throw another gem as she went all seven innings, giving up only six hits and would get seven strikeouts on the day. Madonna would strike first in the 3rd inning on a Bailey Martin double that would score Emily Theisen from second. Concordia would not go down without a fight as they would score in the top of the 5th off a Crusader error. But the Crusaders would answer right back in the bottom of the 5th with the help of a Cardinal error to put them back in front 2-1. Game one would end with the final of 2-1 as each pitcher would close the game strong only giving up one hit between the two of them for the remainder of the game.

  • Alissa Gauthier would have the other RBI on a sacrifice

The Cardinals would strike first in this one putting up 2 runs in the third inning on a fielder's choice and a sac fly to go up 2-0 in the third inning. The Crusaders would answer right back in the bottom of the 3rd on an RBI single from Autumn Reed that would score Alissa Gauthier after her lead off single to start the inning. The Crusaders struggled to get the bats going after that while Concordia would go on to score runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings to take home the 6-1 victory.
