LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Madonna University baseball team defeated the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday afternoon from Ilitch Ballpark. An 11-run bottom of the third inning propelled the Crusaders to a 17-11 victory, moving their record to 26-15 overall and 20-6 in WHAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Wolverines scored the game's first run in the top of the first, before Madonna came back in the bottom half of the inning. A Bobby Cavin RBI single brought home Jace Matkin and Anthony Sharkas to make the score 2-1 after one inning. Dearborn tied things at 2-2 in the top of the second, but the Crusaders took the lead for good the next half inning thanks in part to an RBI triple by Sharkas. The Wolverines got it back to within one run in the top half of the third, but it was the closest they got the rest of the game. Madonna scored 11 runs in the bottom of the third highlighted by a two-run home run by Cavin, a two-run double by Alex Garbacik, and a two-run single by Kyle Revere. 

Dearborn showed some fight however, scoring four runs each in the fourth and sixth innings and getting within four runs of the Crusaders. Cavin put the game away however in the bottom of the eighth with his second two-run home run of the day. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Getting the start and win on the mound was Sam Assaf, throwing three innings and recording three strikeouts.
• Cavin finished his day at the plate going 5-of-6 with six RBIs.
• Both teams had 14 hits each.

Madonna heads to Lourdes University for a four-game weekend series beginning Saturday at 1:00 PM.
