Crusaders Split With Night Hawks

THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Following their clean sweep in their first double header against Thomas University yesterday, the Crusaders returned to finish their four-game series against the Night Hawks. They would split the double header today, losing the first game 5-3 but shutting down the Night Hawks in the second, winning 3-0. The Crusaders finished 3-1 in the four game series.

Game 1:

Madonna would score right off the bat in the top of the first as Bobby Cavin ripped a double that brought Jace Matkin home. The Night Hawks would match them in the bottom of the inning, ending the first with a 1-1 tie. After two quiet innings, the Night Hawks went on a run, jumping ahead 4-1 by the end of the fourth. Alex Garbacik hit a ball down the third base line that would be good enough to bring Brady Krzciok home to try and mount a comeback. Matt Staelgraeve hit one over the fence in the top of the sixth, but the Crusaders were unable to get anything after as they would fall 5-3 to the Night Hawks.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Staelgraeve scored one run off of his huge home run.
  • Matkin and Krzciok each scored a run.
  • Cavin went 1-of-2 with one RBI.

Game 2:

The Crusaders were determined to shut down the Night Hawks in their second game after giving up the loss to open the day. They allowed just three hits and zero runs through the first three innings, however the Crusaders were held to no runs as well. That changed in the top of the fourth inning though, as Krzciok rattled off a single to bring Matkins home. Krzciok would make it home himself, giving the Crusaders a 2-0 lead. In the top of the seventh, Garbacik drove Brendan VanTubergen home with a double to seal the game with a 3-0 victory for the Crusaders.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Krzciok led the team with nine putouts, and scored one run and one RBI.
  • Carson Collins allowed just four hits and recorded two strikeouts.

UP NEXT:

The Crusaders will stay in Georgia as they venture to Lawrenceville for a two-game series against seventh-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College beginning on March 7th at 5:00 pm.
