GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Madonna University Softball Team continued their Kentucky tour as they headed to Georgetown for a double-header against the Tigers of Georgetown College. After finding themselves down early in Game 1, the Crusaders rallied an amazing comeback win, shutting out the Tigers after the second inning and beating them 4-3. The Crusaders would catch fire late in Game 2 as well, running away with the 8-3 victory and sweeping the Tigers.
GAME 1:
After holding the Crusaders to a scoreless first inning, the Tigers would strike first with a 3-run double in the bottom of the first, going up 3-0 on the Crusaders. Madonna didn't let it get to them, fighting their way back in the top of the second as Lucy Bennin stole her way home. Two strikeouts thrown by Maeson Schlaud would quickly end the second inning before Georgetown could get a hit. A stalemate would ensue until the top of the fourth, when a double from Emma Mossing would bring Gabby Toth home for the score; Crusaders down only a run now. With just one inning to complete their comeback, an RBI single by Emily Theisen brought Alissa Gauthier home on a fielder's choice, tying the game at 3-3. With the game on the line, Jenna Gilbert popped up a sacrifice fly to bring Jenna Gould home, putting the Crusaders up 4-3. Three quick outs in the bottom of the seventh, with the final being a strikeout from Schlaud, the Crusaders closed out the game, completing their comeback to win 4-3 in the first game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Mossing went 2-of-3 with one RBI for the Crusaders.
- Schlaud pitched all seven innings, allowing just four hits and three runs, and struck out seven Tigers.
- Toth went 4-of-2 and scored one run for the Crusaders.
- Theisen and Gilbert also each recorded an RBI.
- Gauthier, Gould, and Bennin all scored runs in the Crusaders' comeback win.
GAME 2:
The Crusaders got off to another slow start in their second game, leaving the top of the first without a hit as the Tigers took the field. Laci Harris took the mound for the Crusaders this game, allowing just one hit in the first inning. They got their rhythm back in the top of the second with a single by Gilbert. A bunt from Mossing would get her to second, and then she would advance to third on the throw. On the next pitch, Gilbert would steal home, scoring the first run of the game. After three scoreless innings to follow, Theisen knocked a two RBI home run out of the park in the top of the fifth, bringing her and Toth home and putting the Crusaders up 3-0. The Tigers would finally catch a hot-streak in the bottom of the fifth. They dialed up a home run to start the inning, after which Jane Anderson would relieve Harris. The Tigers would go on to score twice more that inning, tying up the game at 3-3 as Gould would take the mound in place of Anderson. To start the top of the sixth, Autumn Reed would score off of an error to give the Crusaders the lead back. A ground out by Toth would still get her an RBI as she brought Gilbert home, putting the Crusaders up 5-3 to end the inning. Schlaud would return to the mound to start the bottom of the sixth, closing it out without letting up any more points. In the top of the seventh, Emily Biggott would hit a two RBI single, advancing to second on the throw, which would bring Theisen and Ryley Osentoski home. A single from Mossing would give Biggott the chance to make it home and add to the Crusaders' lead. Georgetown would go scoreless in the seventh, giving the Crusaders the swift 8-3 victory and the sweep.

The Crusaders will make their final stop of their Kentucky road trip on Saturday, February 25th, where they will once again face Lindsey Wilson College at 1:00 pm.
