Saints come out on top in Crusaders' final road game

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Crusaders ventured to the middle of the state for their final road game against the Saints of Siena Heights University. The Crusaders hung in there for a majority of the action, but the Saints would run away with the victory in the fourth quarter, handing the Crusaders a 77-14 loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusader defense got off to a good start as they limited the damage done by the Saints to start the game. Graduate linebacker Dante Cardinali recorded six tackles and one tackle-for-loss in the first quarter alone. It was a slow start for the Crusader offense though on the other side of the ball, as the Saints jumped ahead 14-0 after one quarter of play.

The Saints' offense started to roll in the second quarter, tacking on three scores to take a 35-0 lead at the break.

The Crusader offense would lock in during the third quarter of play. Freshman quarterback Johnathan Rentrope found Emerson Combs in the endzone for a 37-yard touchdown, the third of the season for Combs who currently leads all Crusaders in scoring. Senior running back Dalen Cobb then punched one in from the two-yard line, his first of the regular season. Cobb found the endzone once previously during the Crusaders' preseason scrimmage against Alma College.

Just as the Crusaders began to rally a comeback, the Saints put the game out of reach with an explosive fourth quarter, taking home the 77-14 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Rentrope was 10-of-20 passing for 107 yards and a touchdown.
  • Cobb led the Crusaders' offense with 71 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
  • Cardinali led the defense with 13 total tackles and one tackle-for-loss.

UP NEXT:

The Crusaders will return to Churchill High School for their final game of the season: The I-96 County Line Classic against their hometown rivals, The Lawrence Tech Blue Devils. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm on November 11th.
