LIVONIA, Mich. - On a raining morning at the Madonna Athletic Complex, the Crusaders' Women's Soccer Team (7-5-1, 4-2-0) would take the field against the Rochester University Warriors (10-3-0, 4-2-0) during their Senior Day matchup. The Crusaders would celebrate their eleven graduating seniors:
Holly McManus,
Madelyn Stack,
Samantha Seyler,
Margie Troyke,
Mia Wolfbauer,
Quinn Soerries,
Nikki Verant,
Erica Padula,
Karina Arnold,
Lily Posuniak, and
Rhiannon Holmes. In honor of their seniors, the Crusaders would take home the 1-0 victory over the Warriors, moving to 5-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors tried to get pressure on the Crusaders early, taking two shots on goal in the first few minutes of play. Both shots would be saved by Madonna goalie Mackenzie Fifer. The Crusader defense once again played stellar, keeping the ball out of their own territory for much of the first half following the Warriors' early pressure. However, the first half of play would end in a stalemate, neither team finding an opening in the other's defense to get points on the board. They would go into halftime tied at 0-0.
Just one minute into the second half, the Crusaders would get on the board with a goal by sophomore Maya Spano, her first of the year, with an assist from Arnold. Following the goal by Spano, the Crusaders would continue to play stout defense as they went on to shut out the Warriors, and secure the 1-0 Senior Day victory.
