Crusaders cruise past Bears

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Kentucky 
The Madonna University's Women's Soccer Team earned a 4-0 victory over the University of Pikeville (Ky.) Bears on Friday afternoon at the Republic Bank Field. The Crusaders move to 2-0 this season following the victory.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
 
The Crusaders dominated the majority of the game, scoring two goals in both halves of the game. Abby Werthman scored the team's first goal in the 22nd minute with the assist coming from Sydnie Voss. It was Werthman's third goal of the season. Alexandra Sherlock made it 2-0 Crusaders with a goal in the 36th minute. 
 
In the second half the Crusaders would go on to strike again. Olivia Brannon scored the first goal of the second half with the assistance of Kyla Fraser in the 78th minute and Victoria Sia added the last goal for the Crusaders in the 87th minute. Madonna's defense was dominant as they did not allow the Bears to take a shot.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • Abby Werthman led the Crusaders with 11 shots and six shots on goal (SOG). 
  • Madonna outshot Pikeville 34-0, while also taking eight corner kicks.

The Crusaders will return back to action on Sunday, September 4th when they face Thomas More University (Ky.) at 1:00 p.m.
