LIVONIA, Mich. – The Madonna University's Women's Soccer Team program posted a 2-1 opening victory over Point Park University (PA.) on Saturday afternoon at the Madonna Athletic Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crusaders dominated the majority of the game, controlling the majority of the possession in the first half but this resulted in a 0-0 score after one. Then it was early in the second half when
Abby Werthman would score her first of two goals at the 52:27 minute putting the Crusaders up 1-0. Abby would then strike again on a beautiful steal from the goalie and score her second goal at the 81:56 mark.
Now down late in the second half, the Pioneers would strike back as TaMaya Wolford would score at the 85:14 mark. However, this would not be enough as the Crusaders were able to hold the Pioneers to just one goal and pull off the 2-1 victory to start their 2022 season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Madonna now has now extended their win streak against Point Park winning five straight against the Pioneers
- The Crusaders would outshoot the Pioneers 18-9 with one corner kick to Point Parks two
UP NEXT
The Crusaders will return to the pitch on Friday, September 2nd when they travel to Crestview Hills, Kentucky to play the University of Pikeville.
