Three Crusaders Earn MSFA Honors

LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University football program had three student-athletes earn Honorable Mention from the Mid-States Football Association Mideast League. The awards were announced on Monday following the conclusion of the regular season on November 12th. 

Leading the Crusaders was sophomore cornerback Cortland Cochran. Cochran was among the best defenders in both the MSFA and NAIA. He played in all 11 games this season and recorded six interceptions, three pass breakups, and 37 total tackles. He also forced one fumble and recovered one. Cochran had two games this season in which he recorded multiple interceptions. 

Also earning MSFA Mideast Honorable Mention was linebacker Jakel Davis. The Grand Rapids native led Madonna with 90 total tackles in 11 games this season. Davis also recovered a fumble at Northwood on September 10th, and posted 5.5 tackles-for-loss and one sack. 

On the offensive side of the ball, wide receiver Novell Chestnut was named MSFA Mideast Honorable Mention. In eight games this season, he hauled in 28 receptions for 562 yards and two touchdowns while also adding one touchdown on the ground. 

For all three players, this is their first All-MSFA honors under head coach Herb Haygood.
