Football Closes 2022 Season

MARIAN, Ind. - Madonna University closed out the 2022 football season with a 79-7 loss to fifth-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University from snowy Wildcat Stadium on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After a Madonna three-and-out, the Wildcats scored the first touchdown of the game just 65 seconds into the contest. Indiana Wesleyan wound up scoring three more times in the first quarter and twice more in the second to take a 42-0 halftime lead. 

The third quarter saw Indiana Wesleyan continue to cruise, as they took a 70-0 lead into the final period.

In the fourth, the Wildcats added a touchdown and 26-yard field goal, before the Crusaders got on the scoreboard. Assane Ka capped off an eight play, 55-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown pass to D'Vonta Garrett and completed the scoring for both sides following the extra point by William Stoyanovich  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • Ka was 7-of-10 passing for 102 yards and a touchdown. 
  • Garrett hauled in three receptions for 32 yards, while Brayden Branstrom had two catches for 36 yards. 
  • Jakel Davis and Zack Bluemer led the defense with nine tackles each. Davis also had 1.5 tackles-for-loss.
  • The Wildcats were led by quarterback Xander Stokes, who completed 13-of-22 passes for 218 yards and four touchdowns. 

UP NEXT:

The Crusaders kickoff the 2023 campaign next August.
