LIVONIA, Mich. - On Saturday from Livonia Churchill High School, the Madonna University program suffered a 53-0 loss to the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) in a MSFA Mideast League showdown. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After the Crusaders were forced to punt on the opening drive of the game, the Cougars marched down the field in nine plays. USF quarterback Heath Simmons found wide receiver Crosley MacEach for a 27-yard touchdown completion. Following the PAT by Jack James the score was 7-0. 

Madonna's second drive saw them forced to punt once again, however this time the Cougars blocked the kick by William Stoyanovich and recovered the ball in the endzone. It was 14-0 with 8:05 left in the first quarter.

Down two scores, the Crusader offense finally got a drive going and got all the way to the USF eight-yard line. The Cougar defense forced a 25-yard field goal by Stoyanovich and once again they blocked his kick and returned it 96 yards to the endzone. It was perhaps the biggest play of the game as USF took a 21-0 lead after one quarter. 

In the second, the Cougars added another touchdown to make it 28-0 when Simmons found MacEach from 10-yards out. It remained 28-0 heading into the halftime break. 

The third quarter saw the Cougars add to their lead with a pair of touchdown rushes and a safety. James also added a 34-yard field goal to make it 47-0 after three.

USF added one more touchdown in the final period on their way to the victory. Prince Powell completed a seven-yard touchdown pass to Adam Smith to make it 53-0 and close the scoring. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Arthur Brantley IV rushed for 86 yards on 17 attempts. 
• Spencer Rivera had seven carries for 32 yards.
• Novell Chestnut led the receiving core with three receptions for 25 yards.
• Leading Madonna defensively was Carl Ware with nine total tackles, while Jesse Morris had an interception for the Crusaders.
