Crusaders Pummel the Pioneers and Move to 5-0 on Season

PITTSBURGH, Pa.-- Madonna University Women's Soccer team pummeled the Point Park University (Pa.)  Pioneers 4-0 Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Crusaders wasted little to no time getting on the board Sunday as Abby Werthman scored at the 4:04 mark of the game. After that neither team was able to put the ball in the net despite multiple shots from both teams. It wasn't until the 27:58 when Werthman scored her second goal of the match and put the Crusaders up 2-0. About ten minutes later, at the 37:09 mark Julieann White scored her fifth goal of the season from a through ball form Mary Philimona to make it 3-0.

In the second half, the Crusaders came out hot,taking five shots in the first ten minutes. This includes a goal by Megan Verant at the 55:25 mark. Point Park was able to get a couple of chances but goalie Brooke Bruletti was able to come away with the saves. 


A big contribution to the Crusaders early success has been the work of their defense and their two goalies Bruletti and Alex Thomas. The Crusaders defense has only allowed nine shots on goal throughout their first five games as Bruletti and Thomas have saved every single one of them.

  • The Crusaders extended their unanswered goal streak to 37.
  •  Bruletti was stellar in goal tonight, recording her third straight shutout of the season
  • Crusaders dominated the shot column 34 total and 19 on goal to the Pioneers seven total and three shots on goal
