PITTSBURGH, Pa.-- Madonna University Women's Soccer team cruises to an 8-0 win against Carlow University (Pa.) on Friday evening. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Madonna saw plenty of opportunities in the early stages of the game having two shots on goal and two others that went wide. It was not until Megan Verant scored at the 14:19 mark and the Crusaders never looked back. By the 33:01 mark of the match Verant already found herself with a hattrick. Verant also set up Morgan Stack to find the back of the night right before the half ended to increase the lead to 4-0. 

In the second, the Crusaders continued to extend their lead as Abby Wetherman slipped past the defense and scored a stunner of a goal from outside the box. The Crusaders would go on to score three more times in the second half as Mary Philimona joined the scoring column at the 60:37 mark, Verant scored yet again, this time from Grace Thomas and a Julieann White goal at the 81:50 mark to make it 8-0.

The Crusader's defense, and combinations of Alex Thomas as well as Brooke Bruletti in goal have been nearly perfect to start the 2021-2022 season. Friday night was no different as they only allowed two shots all game that Thomas saved easily. 



INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 

• The Crusaders extend their unanswered goal streak to 33.
• Verant doubled her season goal total as she scored four tonight, giving her seven total on the season.
•  Alex Thomas was steller in goal tonight, recording her second shutout of the season
• Verant, Werthman, Philimona, White, and Stack combined for 17 shots on goal.

Madonna will play at Point Park University (Pa.) at Highmark Stadium on Sunday, September 12 at 3:30 p.m. for its next contest.
