Seniors lead senior day sweep of Warriors

LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University softball team sent 12 seniors out with a bang on Saturday at University Field with a sweep of a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader against Indiana Tech. The Crusaders, who won game one 6-0 and game two 3-2, have now won nine straight games.

The wins moved Madonna to 21-5 on the season and 10-2 in WHAC play while the Warriors fall to 14-21 overall and 4-9 in league play.

GAME 1: #RV Madonna 6, Indiana Tech 1
Senior ace Madisen Henry improved to 6-1 as she scattered three hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk over six innings and notched career strikeout number 400. Senior Alyssa Fessenden tossed a perfect seventh with a pair of strikeouts.

The offense gave Henry all the support she needed in the second inning as an error and a walk set the table for junior Veronica Pezzoni who singled in a run and senior MaKayla Bassage scored from third when Pezzoni stole second. A pair of walks loaded the bases for junior Brooke Garbarino who put the ball in play and brought in a run on another Warriors' miscue.

Pezzoni and junior Kattie Popko added some insurance runs in the sixth as Pezzoni doubled home a run and Popko singled in senior Brooklyn Dolloff for the 6-0 win.
