LIVONIA, Mich.– The Madonna University women's soccer played the middle game in their three-game homestand on Saturday as they were also able to celebrate their six graduating seniors including Nicolette Vultaggio, Jenna Landrith, Rachel Rubio, Emma Werthman, Alyssa Benvenuti and Julianna George.

With two games remaining in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play the Crusaders currently sit tied for second behind Aquinas and tied with University of Northwestern Ohio, who holds the tiebreaker, as they will look to make a strong push towards the WHAC tournament in the final week.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first fifteen minutes of the game went by with not much action as both teams tried to settle in.
  • The first of five goals for the Crusaders came in the 17th minute as Vultaggio made a pass to Megan Verant who passed it back to Vultaggio who was able to score just underneath the goalie's arms for the goal.
  • Just two minutes later Sydnie Voss received a pass from Abby Werthman who was able to score her second goal of the season.
  • The next two Crusaders goals came off of mistakes from the Wolverines as they were both own goals. The first own goal came off of a Madonna free kick in which Kirsten Foor put the ball in the box and Michigan-Dearborn deflected the ball in in the 38th minute. The second one came in the second half in the 67th minute as Alexandra Sherlock lofted the ball into the box and the goal, attempting to punch the ball out punched it into the net.
  • The final Crusader goal of the afternoon came in the 77th minute when she took a pass, made a couple dribbles to get open and score from about 30 yards out.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Once again the Crusaders dominated on the defensive end as they held the Wolverines to only one shot that was on goal.
  • On the other side of things Madonna was able to take 17 total shots throughout the afternoon with 13 of them being on goal.
  • With all of the offensive opportunities the Blue and Gold took five corner kicks as opposed to the Wolverines zero.
MILESTONE WATCH
  • With Vultaggio's goal today she is now tied for third place all-time for most goals scored in a career with 44.
