LIVONIA, Mich.– The Madonna University women's soccer team returned home after a short two-game road trip, against Concordia University Ann Arbor and University of Northwestern Ohio, in which they went 1-1.
With three games left to play in the regular season the Crusaders are in the three position in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference standings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The beginning of the game started as neither team was able to get anything really going on either side of the field.
- The Crusaders were however able to get on the board first with a goal from Holly Mcmanus, which was the first of her career, as she was able to get open on a pass from Julieann White and get the ball just underneath the goalie's arms for the 1-0 lead. Madonna would go into the half with that same score.
- The first action of the second half came in the 69th minute after a Lourdes turnover, Madonna was able to take advantage of quick play and Abby Werthman was able to make a small back kick to Sierra Nissan who took a solid shot form just outside the goalie box into the upper right corner of the net for the 2-0 lead.
- Eight minutes later Holly Mcmanus would score her second goal of the game as she was able to get a pass from Nicolette Vultaggio as she would give the Crusaders the 3-0 lead.
- The sole Grey Wolves goal came only a minute later as they would be able to cross from the outside into the middle and beat Madonna goalie Alex Thomas to the far side.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Crusaders were able to dominate the offensive and defensive end as they took 23 shots and were able to hold the Grey Wolves to four shots. The Crusaders also had the advantage in shots on goal 12-1.
- Madonna took five corner shots throughout the game to Lourdes' three.
- 11 Blue and Gold players made it into the shot column throughout the afternoon, and were led by Megan Verant with five.
