Crusaders’ Ware Makes History in Loss to No. 22 Saints

ADRIAN, Mich. -  The Madonna University Football team traveled to Adrian on Saturday for the program's first game against a ranked opponent as they face No. 22 Siena Heights University at O'Laughlin Stadium.

The Saints received the first kickoff and promptly moved 66 yards in 11 plays, but the MU defense put up a huge stand, forcing a turnover on downs at the 2-yard line. Unfortunately, the offense struggled against the stout front of the Saints and a penalty in the endzone resulted in a safety to give the home team the first points of the game. The Saints scored on their next six possessions for a 44-point lead at the half.

Midway through the third quarter, the Crusaders' defense made history as Carl Ware dragged down SHU quarterback Hayden Lehmann for an 11-yard loss, the first sack in program history. It proved crucial as it led to a turnover on downs at the MU 28-yard line. The defense made another big play in the fourth quarter, on 3rd and 8 at the MU 39, Alex Hunt and Jason Langon combined for a sack to force a punt.

The Blue and Gold limited the SHU offense to 21 second-half points in the 65-0 loss.
