Women’s Soccer picks up conference win against Cardinals

THE BASICS

Score: Madonna University 3, Concordia University (Mich.) 1

ANN ARBOR, Mich.– The Madonna University women's soccer team traveled to Ann Arbor this afternoon for a matchup against the Cardinals of Concordia University, who sits atop the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference. With the win the Cardinals win their fourth straight game. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Madonna struck first in the game in the 19th minute as the Crusaders made some solid passes as Sydnie Voss was able to get a ball from Sierra Nissan as she beat the Cardinal goalie to the opposite side of the net. 
  • The Cardinals would not stay behind for long as minutes later Samantha Golchuck, who leads the WHAC in goals, would even the game up at one. 
  • 20 minutes later in the 39th minute Nicolette Vultaggio would score her second goal of the season as she would get a ball from Holly McManus and give the Crusaders the lead they would take to the end. 
  • The final Crusaders goal would come from Mary Philimona as she would get a through ball from Nissan who would beat the Concordia goalie for a 3-1 win. 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Crusaders dominated the shot column once again as they outshot the Cardinals 30-7 overall and 15-3 on goal. 
  • The corner kick column would be fairly even as Madonna would slightly have the advantage 3-2.
  • 10 Blue and Gold players would get into the shot column as they would be led by Megan Verant with six. 
UP NEXT
  • The Blue and Gold will travel to Pontiac, Michigan for a matchup against Rochester University on Saturday March 20 which begins with a 1PM kickoff.
