Crusader Wrap Up Regular Season with a Win.

DEARBORN, Mich.-- Madonna University's Women's Soccer team wrapped up regular season play as they were on the road against the University of Michigan-Dearborn and came away with a 5-0 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Crusaders saw plenty of opportunities in the early stages of the game. Grace Thomas was outstanding today as she tied the Madonna single-game record for most assists in a game with four. The only other Crusader to do that was Christen Shull in 2001 against Concordia.

Madonna wasted no time as at the 1:15 mark, the Crusaders had a corner kick.  Thomas would send it into the box and found Victoria Sia, she passed it back to Sierra Nissan and buried it in the left side of the net to make it 1-0. About 10 minutes later, Thomas sent another cross into the box and found a sprinting Sydnie Voss for the header and Madonna went up 2-0.

In the next seven minutes, the Crusaders scored two more goals that were set up by Thomas. The goals were scored by Nissan to give her a hat-trick on the day and those goals were her first ones of the year. Madonna would extend their lead to 5-0 in the 35th minute when Kirsten Foor scored from 40 plus yards out on a ridiculous free-kick.

In the second half, it was a quiet half for the Crusader offense, the defense and Brooke Bruletti in goal were stellar, not allowing a single shot in the second half. The Crusaders would wrap up the 2021 regular season with a 5-0 victory and finish with a record of 13-1-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Bruletti finished the game with one save and her fifth shutout of the year.
  • Nissan finished the game with a hat-trick
  • Thomas set a school record with four assists on the day.
