LIVONIA, Mich.-- Madonna University's Women's Soccer team was back in action as they took on No. 12 Aquinas College (Mich.) at the Madonna Athletic Complex and ended up with their first loss of the season, losing 2-1. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints showed everyone why they were a top 12 team in the nation, they had three shots on goal and four corner kicks within the first 18 minutes of the game. They kept their foot on the gas pedal for all of the first half. At the 21:25 mark, a handball was called in the box and the Saints were awarded a penalty shot. Alex Thomas did her best for the Crusaders and even dove the right way, but the Saints were able to score making it 1-0. 

Around 14 minutes later Aquinas was on the attack once more. The Aquinas player sets up for a rocket from outside the box and somehow finds its way to the back of the net to make it 2-0. 

The Crusader had some fight in them in the second half. Five minutes left in the match, Julieann White was able to connect with Mary Philimona for the breakaway goal to make it 2-1.

• Thomas finished the game with six saves 
• The Crusaders are third in the WHAC standings, and a half game behind  University of Northwestern Ohio in second
• Mary Philimona scores her seventh goal of the season.

The Crusaders return home this Wednesday for their last home game of the season against University of Northwestern Ohio at 1:30 p.m. at the Madonna Athletic Complex.
