Thomas scores twice to lead @MUCrusadersWSOC to a 4-1 win

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - The Madonna University women's soccer team traveled to Milwaukee, Wisc. for the first of their two-game weekend trip. They won their game against No.17 Cardinal Stritch by a score of 4-1. The Crusaders improved their record to 2-1-1, while the Wolves fall to 1-2-1 in the young season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Crusaders set the offensive tone early as they had multiple chances in the first 15 minutes of play before Alexandra Sherlock got the scoring started in the game
  • The remainder of the first half saw the Crusaders fire off many more shots
  • The second half started with the Wolves scoring in the 50th minute as Jenny Nagle was able to get a shot past Goalie Alex Thomas
  • In the 59th minute, Grace Thomas was able to score what would be her first goal of the game and the first of her career.
  • Just minutes later, Sierra Nissan was also able to put in her first goal of the season in the 61st minute on an assist from Thomas
  • Thomas was able to get the last Crusader goal of the afternoon in the 67th minute

  • "Overall, we played very well today against a strong, technical team.  We had a rough start to the second half and conceded the equalizer, but found our footing and put a few shots away.  Grace Thomas put together what may have been her best match as a Crusader and had two nice finishes to make a big impact today."- Head Coach Paul Patton

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Crusaders dominated the shot column as they outshot the Wolves 25-3 with also leading shot on goal with 12-1
  • Grace Thomas' two goals and one assist today are career highs for her
  • The Blue and Gold are now 2-0 against the Wolves. With the only other contest coming last season
  • Ten total Crusaders tallied a shot in the contest

  • The Crusaders return to the pitch on Sunday, Sep. 8 as they continue their travel home as they will make a stop in Joliet, Ill. when they face St. Francis (Ill.) with an 11 AM kickoff.
