LIVONIA, Mich. – The Madonna University women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2019 campaign, a 1-0 defeat to the University of Detroit-Mercy. The NCAA Division 1 opponent used a penalty kick in the 51st minute to gain the lead and never lost it. The loss sends the Crusaders to a 1-1-1 record on the year while the Titans are now 1-2-1 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• The game started out slow as the Crusaders and Titans went back and forth while fighting for possession
• The Titans got on the board with a penalty kick goal from Julie Ann Piechocki in the 51st minute 
• Megan Verant had the best chance to score in the 77th minute as she was able to get a strike off but was just saved by the Titan goalie
• The Crusaders had the ball in the scoring zone for the last five minutes but they could not get a clean shot off
• Grace Thomas had a corner kick in the 88th minute that was narrowly knocked away by the Titans defense 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• It was a very physical game as Maddona had more fouls as they led that category by a 21-18 mark
• Each team made three saves over the course of the game
• Both of the teams had four corner kicks throughout the game
• Alex Thomas made her debut in goal tonight for the Crusaders
• Madonna attempted five shots with three on frame while UDM tallied seven shots with four on goal
