LIVONIA, Mich.- The Madonna University men's soccer team kicked off the 2019 season by capturing their first victory by a score of 1-0. The Crusaders used a 79th minute goal by Kyle Tinnion to win. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: Madonna (1-0) 1, Mount Vernon Nazarene (0-1) 0

• Goalie Joe Smith set the tone defensively with four saves in the first 15 minutes of the game.
• The rest of the first half was a back and forth battle as both teams had multiple chances to score.
• In the 52nd minute Isseo Ito was fouled in the goalie box. Yuri Farkas ended up taking the penalty kick there was a great save by goalie Joshua Dunn.
• In the 79th minute Alexander Zaleczny crossed the ball into the middle of the field and after a couple of deflections Yuri Farkas trying to keep the ball used a  bicycle kick and Kyle Tinnion headed the ball into the net for the lone goal of the game.
• MVNU had a couple of good looks in the final minute of the game but the Crusader defense held up strong to finish out the 1-0 victory

INSIDE THE BOX

• The Crusaders stay unbeaten against Mount Vernon as they are now 5-0
• MVNU outshot the Crusaders 16-15 and 10-6 in SOG's 
• Tinnion's goal was his first game winning goal in his career
• Farkas led the team with seven total shots with four of those being on goal
• Smith's 10 saves is the most saves he has had in a game since 2017
