COLUMBIA, Mo. - The fourth-seeded Madonna University softball team got a solo home run from Kerstyn Comerzan, but it wasn't enough in a 2-1 loss to sixth-ranked and top-seed of the Columbia (Mo.) Bracket, Valley City State University (N.D.). It's the second time this season the Vikings have bested the Crusaders in a one-run contest and the second straight year the Crusaders have dropped the opener of the NAIA Opening Round tournament.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Neither team recorded a hit until the third and it was the Vikings who scored first in the top of the fifth on a bloop single to left field with two outs
  • In the seventh, VCSU added what proved to be the winning run as a pair of base hits, the second with two outs
  • Madonna's lone tally came in the bottom of the seventh on an 0-2, two-out solo home run from Comerzan who also played incredible defense throughout the game
WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?
  • 6-3: The Blue and Gold were outhit in the contest 6-3
  • 7/6/2/1/8: Madisen Henry (14-8) took the tough luck loss as she allowed two runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts over seven innings
  • 1: Comerzan scored the lone run on her only hit of the contest; Sarah Holton and Makayla Bassage had the other two hits for MU
  • 8:  The Crusaders struck out eight times in the contest
