LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University softball team used a seven-run first inning and a pair of home runs to take game one 8-6 over Concordia University - Ann Arbor at University Field on Thursday before a downpour suspended game two at 1-1 in the top of the second.
The second game will be resumed on Monday at 4 p.m.
GAME 1: Madonna 8, Concordia 6
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
	- The Crusaders' offense got off to a hot start as Sarah Holton led off the game with a home run and four batters later Kerstyn Comerzan powered a ball over the left-centerfield fence for a grand slam. Madonna tacked on two more runs off the bats of Becky Giacobbi and Jordan Johnson for a 7-0 lead.
- Four hits and four errors led to five runs for the Cardinals, three of which were unearned, to cut the lead to two in the second.
- Giacobbi exercised great situational awareness in the third as she grounded out to the right side to plate Emma Sikina to push the lead to three, 8-5.
- A Concordia solo home run accounted for the final margin.
WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?
	- Holton paced the Crusaders' eight-hit attack with a 3-for-4 effort with a run scored and an RBI while Brooklyn Dolloff added two hits and a run scored
- Comerzan drove in four and scored a run while Sikina scored twice
- Alyssa Fessenden improved to 5-0 as she allowed five runs, two earned, on five hits with two strikeouts over 3.1 innings for relief while Ciera Jones  earned the save with one run on two hits in 2.2 innings
- Madonna outhit Concordia 8-6 but committed five errors to the Cardinals' two
GAME 2: Madonna 1, Concordia 1 (Top 2)
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
	- A one-out solo home run to left gave the visitors the early lead then an error on a potential double play allowed the Crusaders to tie the game.
- Hard rains and darkness in the second postponed the game which will be resumed on Monday, April 18 at 4 p.m.
- The game will resume with Kali Hill of Concordia at bat, with a one ball and two strike count in the top of the second inning.
UP NEXT
