@MUCrusadersWSOC season ends after tough rematch vs UNOH

LIMA, Ohio– The Madonna University women's soccer team's season has come to a close after a tough fought semi-final matchup against the University of Northwestern Ohio. The Racers took a 2-0 lead into half a held that lead for the rest of the match. 

The Crusader's final record ends at 13-6-1 overall in the conference. While the Racers, 18-1 and 11-0, will advance to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship game and will face off against the winner of Lawrence Tech and Aquinas which is this evening. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • The Racers were able to control the game early as they had multiple chances within the first 10 minutes including a shot from UNOH that hit the post. 
  • UNOH was able to get on the board first in the 29th minute on a goal from Julie Cazanave
  • The game looked like it was going to go into half at 1-0 but with five seconds remaining the Racers were able to get another goal on the board for the 2-0 lead.
  • Both teams were able to get multiple shots off in the second half, with the Crusaders getting all six of their shots in the second half.
  • The Crusader's best chance was in the 86th minute when Megan Verant blasted a shot from just outside the box that the Racer goalie was able to reach for the save.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Crusaders were outshot by the Racers 10-6 and 7-1 in shot on goals
  • Thomas recorded five saves, while the Racer goalie recorded one save on the only shot she faced on the day in the win
  • Two Crusaders tallied a shot in the contest, with Verant (five shots, one on goal) and Cristina Moraccini (one shot) pacing the way for the Crusaders
MILESTONES
  • The Crusaders defense finished a spectacular season as they finished second all-time in both goals allowed (13) and in goals-against average (0.65)
SENIORS
  • The loss ends the season for four Crusaders including Moraccini, Jamie Moceri, Lauren Chaney, and Gabby Dedvukaj. All three of these players were key midfielders and defenders for the Crusaders over the past four seasons.
