#RV @MUCrusadersMSOC advance to final site for a third straight year

BECKLEY, W.Va- The Madonna Crusaders Men's Soccer team stayed in Beckley, W.Va. for their second game of the NAIA Opening Round for their match against the host team Golden Bears of West Virginia Tech University. The Crusaders once again won a close match thanks in part to the defense and goalie Joe Smith. Yuri Farkas Guglielmi had another outstanding game on offense as he was able to score two goals to seal the 2-1 victory.
 
The Crusaders season record sits at 15-4-3 overall, while the loss today for the Golden Bears in the only loss for the season and sees their final record set at 17-1-2. The win advances the Crusaders to the final site for the third time in as many years. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams were playing the possession game as they were battling back and forth as neither team was able to take control of the game.
  • The game saw its first score in the 17th minute when Farkas was able to get a ball past the keeper for the score and his first goal of the day 
  • With nine minutes remaining in the half, Sergio Sanchez sent a through ball to Alvaro Tina that he was able to beat Smith to the other side of the net to tie the match at one apiece.
  • Only 11 minutes into the second half, Issei Ito got a ball to Farkas 18 yards out that he fired into the back of the net for what would be the final score of 2-1
INSIDE THE BOX
  • The Blue and Gold are now 1-0 all-time against the Golden Bears
  • The Crusaders outshot the Patriots 11-5 over the course of the game and in shots on goal 5-4
  • Both teams had five corner kicks on the afternoon
  • Five Crusaders tallied a shot with Farkas (four shots, three on goal), Rodrigo Castro de Siqueira (three shots, one on goal) and Leonardo Gois Abonizio (two shots, one on goal) pacing the Crusader offense
  • Farkas is now atop of the leader boards for most game-winning goals in his career with 16
