Big Win for @MUCrusadersWSOC On Senior Day

LIVONIA, Mich. - After a slow first half the Madonna University Crusaders women's soccer team caught fire in the second half as they scored six goals in the second half for a big 7-0 victory on senior day. The victory today was the second largest win on the season. 

The Crusaders have improved their record to 9-2-1 record and 4-1 in the conference, while the Warriors fall to 0-13 on the season and 0-5 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The game was even until the 29th minute when Kristen Foor, after many attempts by each team, was able to get the only goal of the first half past the keeper. 
  • The Crusaders were able to get off to a much faster start in the second half as Rachel Rubio was able to get her second goal of the season on a goal that was assisted by Megan Verant in the 52nd minute.
  • Grace Thomas scored quickly after that goal, as she too got a through ball from Megan Verant, and was able to score her seventh goal of the season in the 54th minute of the game
  • Next goal scorer was Melanie Porter as she scored two of them. The first in the 63rd minute she beat the keeper to the far side. And then in the 69th minute she was able to get a breakaway goal on a through ball from Angela Asante.
  • Karina Arnold was next up for the Crusaders as in the 80th minute she had a couple shots that her second shot was able to get past the goalie.
  • The final goal of the day came from Mary Philimona with 11 seconds remaining in the game as she had a couple shots that the final one was able to get into the back of the net.
  • Alex Thomas was solid yet again in goal as she recorded her third shutout in the past four games while also recording five saves on the day.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Crusaders are now 12-0 all-time against the Warriors
  • The Crusaders dominated the shot column as they outshot the Warriors 29-7 with also leading shot on goal with 19-5
  • 11 total Crusaders tallied a shot in the contest
  • Verant led the game with eight shots (five on goal) and Sydnie Voss had five shots (three on goal) to lead the team
UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders will continue conference play on Wednesday, October 16 at 3 PM when they will be the host to Cleary University as that will also be the team's pink game.
