Verant leads @MUCrusadersWSOC to win over Warriors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Madonna University Women's Soccer team were in action today as they traveled  to Fort Wayne, Ind. for a conference match-up against Indiana Tech. The Blue and Gold used a big day from sophomore Megan Verant as she scored a hat trick during the game to win 3-0. 

The Crusaders have improved their record to 8-2-1 record and 3-1 in the conference, while the Warriors fall to 4-7 on the season and 0-4 in the conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crusaders were able to get multiple shots off in the first minutes of the games before Verant scored the first goal of the game in the 21st minute when the keeper misplayed the ball on she was able to put it in the back of the net.
  • The rest of the first half was much of the same as both teams got off their share of shots off.
  • The second half began quickly when Verant was able to head the ball in after a corner kick from Grace Thomas that she was able to put the ball in the box. 
  • Verant completed the hat trick in the 82nd minute when she got a free kick from Madison Servey that she was able to get past the goalie
  • Alex Thomas was solid yet again in goal as she had a career high five saves on the day
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Crusaders are now 28-5-1 all-time against the Warriors and have won 6 out of the last 9 games
  • The Crusaders dominated the shot column as they outshot the Warriors 25-10 with also leading shot on goal with 14-5
  • Nine total Crusaders tallied a shot in the contest
  • Alex Thomas recorded the second shutout of her career in her second start
  • Verant led the game with nine shots (five on goal) and Sydnie Voss had four shots (two on goal) to lead the team
UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders will continue conference play on Saturday, October 12 at 12 PM when they will be the host to Rochester College as the game will also be senior day.
