@MUCrusadersWSOC downs Saints for first time in five years

LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University women's soccer team dominated Siena Heights University in front of nearly 300 fans in a 3-0 homecoming victory at the Madonna Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The win snaps a seven-match losing streak against the Adrian, Michigan program. The last MU win in the series, which is now tied at 19 since 2005, came in 2013 when MU swept a pair of meetings by a total score of 4-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • FIRST HALF

    • The Blue and Gold wasted no time getting on the board as Nicolette Vultaggio peppered the net with a shot and the rebound bounced to the foot of Alexis Bozinovski who slotted it in the upper left 90 for the 1-0 lead just five minutes into play.

    • Less than 14 minutes later is was Vultaggio who rifled a shot just below the crossbar in the upper left corner to make it a two score affair.

  • SECOND HALF

    • Madonna possessed the ball for the majority of the second 45 and continued to spray the goal with shots. They broke through for a third tally in the 87th minute as Sierra Nissan sent a ball in from the corner and Megan Verant finished the set piece with her second goal of the year.

INSIDE THE BOX

  • The Blue and Gold finished with 19 shots to Siena Heights' 10 which included a 12-6 margin in the second half. MU put nine shots on goal to SHU's six.

  • Madonna attempted six corner kicks, five in the second half

  • Vultaggio led the team with five shots, three on frame, while Verant added four shots with two on goal
