Pair of second half goals lifts @MUCrusadersMSOC to road win

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Madonna University men's soccer team opened Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Lawrence Technological University at the LTU Athletic Field on Saturday afternoon.

FINAL: RV Madonna (6-2-0, 1-0-0 WHAC) 2, RV Lawrence Tech (3-4-1, 0-1-0 WHAC) 1

  • First Half

    • The Blue Devils controlled much of the opening 45 and they attempted more shots than the Crusaders 4-2. A late substitution for the Crusades led to a weakness that the home team exploited as they scored the games first goal in the 44th minute

  • Second Half

    • After the Crusaders regrouped at halftime, they dominated play in the second half and outshot the home team 9-4, which led to a pair of goals.

    • The equalizer came in the 64th minute as Kazuya Odawara found Yuri Farkas Guglielmi for the juniors third goal in two games.

    • Then, with time winding down, Odawara sent a ball to Caio Mazzo Noguerio who blasted a class shot from 20-yards out for the game-winner.

COACHES CORNER

  • "It took us about 35 minutes to get comfortable and really unlock their defense. Their back line and keeper played really well, but we made some adjustments and found a shape we liked. I admire our group in the sense of their maturity. We've had an unforgettable season since camp began, but they were confident about their ability to get a goal back and their ability to deal with adversity, look forward and move past it has been great to see." - Head Coach Mark Zathey on the loss

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Madonna finished with 11 shots, five on frame, while the Blue Devils tallied eight with three on goal.

  • Farkas led the offense with three shots, two on gaol while Mazzo Nogueria and Ludvick Asigo each added two shots with one on frame.

  • Odawara added two assists for MU

  • Joe Smith remained solid in goal for MU as he made two saves in his 90 minutes

UP NEXT:

  • The Crusaders return to the Madonna Athletics Complex to open Homecoming week against Concordia University - Ann Arbor with kickoff slated for 2 p.m.
