LIMA, Ohio -  A six goal first half was too much for the Madonna University women's soccer team to overcome in a 7-1 loss to the 20th-ranked Racers of the University of Northwestern Ohio at Racer Stadium on Wednesday. The loss drops the Crusaders to 12-3-2 on the year and 7-1-2 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play while the Racers improve to 11-3-3 overall and 9-1 in league action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• UNOH raced out to a 6-0 lead in the first 45 as they netted a pair of breakaway goals in the first 11 minutes and it was took much for MU to overcome.

• The Blue and Gold got on the board in the 76th minute when Cristina Moraccini found the feet of Jamie Moceri who fired a shot just inside the right post for her ninth goal of the season.

• The Racers added a 1-v-1 tally in the 79th minute for the final margin.

INSIDE THE BOX

• The Racers outshot the Crusaders 18-4 in the contest which included a 12-1 margin in the first half. UNOH put 11 shots on goal to Madonna's three.

• All six corner kicks (five for UNOH, one for MU) came in the first half

• Moceri paced the offense with two shots, both on frame, while Nicolette Vultaggio and Grace Thomas each added one shot each

• Julia Stewart, MU's goalkeeper, made four saves in the contest

MILESTONES TO WATCH

• Stewart (30) is three shutouts shy of Jennifer Barker's (1998-01) 33

• The Crusaders are two shutouts shy of the program's single-season record of 14 in 2000

UP NEXT

• The Blue and Gold will wrap up the regular season with a senior day contest against Cornerstone at the Madonna Athletics Complex on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. Before the game MU will honor five seniors for their contributions to the team.
