@MUCrusaderMSOC races past Wolverines with four goal second half

LIVONIA, Mich.- The Madonna University men's soccer team regrouped after a scoreless first half and lit up the scoreboard in the second 45 in a 4-0 win over University of Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday afternoon at the Madonna Athletics Complex. The Crusaders improve to 11-3-0 on the season and 6-1-0 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play while the Wolverines fall to 5-6-1 on the year and 2-4-0 in WHAC action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After an unproductive first half that saw MU take 10 shots to the Wolverines' one, Madonna made some key halftime adjustments and the flood gates broke open.

  • Five minutes into the second half, Tavon Barnes made an aggressive move to goal after a save and the UM-Dearborn keeper dropped the ball and Barnes was able to convert on the opportunity for the 1-0 lead.

  • A penalty kick at the 51:24 mark made it 2-nil as Yuri Farkas Guglielmi beat the keeper to the lower right corner for the two-goal advantage.

  • In the 66th minute, Leonardo Abonizio crossed the ball from the far side, Marlon de Freitas then found the feet of Rodrigo Castro de Siqueira who bested the keeper just inside the far post from eight yards out for the third tally.

  • The final goal came in the 75th minute as Ludvick Asigo flicked a ball toward the goal and happened to hit Farkas in the back of the head. The talented MU forward was able to flick the ball just over the keepers head inside the far post for the 4-0 win.

INSIDE THE BOX

  • The Blue and Gold outshot the Maize and Blue 21-2 in the contest with seven balls on frame to the Wolverines zero. Both teams attempted five corner kicks and had six fouls.

  • Farkas led the offense with seven shots, three on frame, while Siqueira added three shots with one on goal.

  • Abonizio and Asigo both attempted a pair of shots while four other players attempted a shot in the contest.
