@MUCrusadersWSOC uses three goal second half to fly past Cleary, 4-0

HOWELL, Mich. -  The Madonna University women's soccer team scored three second half goals and played stellar defense to secure a fourth straight shutout, this time a 4-0 win over Cleary University at Lake Trust Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The win moves the Crusaders to 10-2-1 overall and 5-0-1 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play while the Cougars slip to 6-5-1 on the year and 1-4-1 in league action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • FIRST HALF

    • In the 35th minute, Sierra Nissan centered a ball into the box that defected off a Cleary defender to the feet of Nicolette Vultaggio who finished with a one-timer for the 1-0 lead.

  • SECOND HALF

    • The Crusaders really opened things up in the second half as Vultaggio fed Julia Henning for the games second goal in the 53rd minute and then a pair of unassisted tallies by Cristina Moraccini (57:09) and Kirsten Schapman (87:41) accounted for the final margin.

INSIDE THE BOX

  • Madonna outshot Cleary 20-9 in the contest, 9-2 in the first 45 and 11-7 in the second, with 14 shots on goal to the Cougars' three.

  • Vultaggio, Jamie Moceri, Brianna Mozariwskyj, Henning and Nissan each attempted three shots with 11 of them on frame led by Vultaggio's three.

  • Moraccini put both her attempts on goal

  • Julia Stewart made all three saves she need to in the shutout, her ninth of the season. She is now three shy of setting the single-season shutout record.
