ALMA, Mich. - The Madonna University women's soccer team earned a 5-3 victory over NCAA Division III Alma College on Thursday evening from Scotland Yard. Vitoria Sia led the Crusaders strong offensive showing with two goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders and Scots were scoreless for the first 20 minutes of play, before Holly McManus broke the draw with a goal in the 21st minute. She later assisted on Madonna's second goal scored by Sia in the 27th minute. Alma didn't go away quietly however, and cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 33rd minute. 

Sara Castillo responded for Madonna however, and made it 3-1 in the 38th minute, before Caroline Kopp scored the final goal of the first half in the 44th minute and gave the Crusaders a 4-1 halftime lead. 

In the second half, Briana Scillion scored for the Scots to make the score 4-2 in the 51st minute, before Sia's second goal made it 5-2 in the 64th minute thanks to an assist from Mia Wolfbauer. Alma scored the final goal of the contest in the 80th minute, but were unable to draw any closer as Madonna came away with the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Karina Arnold recorded two assists for the Crusaders.
• Madonna outshot Alma 21-9.
• McManus, Sia, and Molly Cote combined for nine shots. 
• Veronica Kozak and Mackenzie Fifer each made one save in goal.
