LIVONIA, Mich.– The Madonna University Crusaders women's soccer team are making their second appearance, since 2018, in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship game, today April 10. The Crusaders will be getting a rematch from that 2018 WHAC Championship game against the Saints of Aquinas College.
SERIES HISTORY
- All-time the Crusaders lead the series 21-15-5. The Saints though have won the past 3 games, including the 2018 WHAC Championship game. Over the past 10 games the Crusaders record is 3-5-2. The Blue and Gold's record at Aquinas is 11-8-3.
ABOUT MADONNA
- The Crusaders advanced to the WHAC Championship game following a thrilling 1-0 win over the University of Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday afternoon. The Crusaders are 9-4 overall on their season and have won five out of their last six games.
- In the game against UNOH, the score was tied at zero until the 68th minute when Nicolette Vultaggio scored what would be the game-winner for the Crusaders. Goalie Alex Thomas had a stellar day in net as she saved a season-high seven shots on the afternoon.
ABOUT AQUINAS
- The Saints have an overall record of 13-1 and went an undefeated 9-0 through regular season WHAC regular season. In this week's National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Top 25 Poll, Aquinas was ranked 17th.
- The Saints won their semifinal match against Cornerstone University by a score of 2-0. Aquinas took the lead in the 30th minute off a goal from Hannah Crum. The second goal of the game occurred in the 68th minute from Filippa Struxsjo.
- Offensively the Saints are averaging 3.79 goals per game and average 23 shots per game. Individually AQ is led by Hannah Crum who has 41 points on the season from 16 goals and nine assists. Additionally, Macy Hollingsworth, adds 19 points.
- Defensively, Braeleigh McCoy has started 12 of the team's 14 games. She has allowed four goals on the season and is ranked sixth in the NAIA in goals allowed per game at 0.36. She has tallied 26 saves on the season.
NAIA TOURNAMENT
- The NAIA tournament begins next week with the opening rounds on April 15-17 on campus sites. With the final site occurring April 27-May 3 in Foley, Alabama.
- The selection show for the tournament will happen on Monday April 12 at 12 PM.
