Crusaders continue improvement at Cardinal Invite

By Zachary Shore

LIVONIA, Mich.-- The Madonna University competitive dance team once again set a season-high for scoring as they placed fourth at the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Concordia University (Mich.) on Friday night. The event featured seven teams with four teams competing virtually, including the Crusaders who performed in front of fans for the first time this season inside the MU Activities Center.

After their performance, the Crusaders celebrated senior night. They were able to recognize four seniors who have been instrumental in building the program. The seniors are Kayla Antongiorgi, Anna Fabus, Aubrey Opphile, and Shannon Rochon.

The Crusaders earned a total score of 65.63 with a raw total of 201.40. The raw score is the total of three judges’ scores while the total score is the average of those scores minus any deductions The Crusaders improved by nearly 10 points over their last performance and received their highest scores of the season for Jazz, Pom, Hip Hop and their team turn sequence. The judges loved the energy and execution of the Jazz section.

Point Park University won the event with a score of 85.53 (262.60 raw) while Siena Heights University placed second with a score of 79.63 (241.90). The host Cardinals narrowly edged the Crusaders with a score of 67.37 (209.60) to round out the top three.

SHE SAID WHAT!?!

We had our best performance of the season tonight,” said Head Coach Angela Moser. “The scores reflected that and I think a big part of that was the energy we got from having fans in the stands. We may not have won the event, but we are hovering close to teams that have been competing much longer than us. I’m proud of where we are and think we can surprise some people next week.
